The goal of this vertical studio (Graduate Landscape Architecture/Undergraduate Architecture) was to understand the ways in which various landscapes would be designed and inhabited in the 21st century.
Art in the Follies is a 21st century park located in downtown Albuquerque.
Working in conjunction with Albuquerque’s growing art presence downtown, the goal of this park is to create spaces for new artists as they begin to enter the art world. Small artist follies inhabit the park and give the artists a studio of their own. Each follie is designed to maximize their space and allow them to experience of an interior/exterior studio through the addition of a glass coiling door. Green spaces are added between the follies to provide a soft delineation of space. A gallery on site, off of Central Ave, provides the artists an opportunity to showcase their new work.
The public is invited to share the site with the artists. A large green space allows the addition of the Downtown Growers Market in the spring and summer. A bike shop, coffee shop, and public restrooms, also on site, provide services to the surrounding community.
